News & Events

The inspiration for The Ruins, my first novel, began when I covered a murder trial on Long Island. The trial was in the mid-1980s, the murder took place in the Village of Lindenhurst, Long Island, in 1954. The murder was one of the coldest cold cases in New York State. That trial, plus an interview with the convicted killer, was the inspiration for The Ruins. This story is told in a piece I wrote for Newsweek.com. The story is on their site today, here.
